When you need to upgrade your module to the latest version, first check what is the version number that you are running on your WHMCS. You can find the version of your module by visiting Setup > Addon Modules page. The column Version always shows your version number.
Now that you know your version number, you must compare it to the latest release. Say that you are running version 1.0.0 and that the latest release is 1.0.3. In this case you can't just look at Upgrade Instructions of release 1.0.3 but first you have to take a look at 1.0.1 and 1.0.2 releases. More in detail, you have to open the changelog of 1.0.1 and, if it has Upgrade Instructions, apply all changes in the given order. Once done move to the changelog of 1.0.2 and 1.0.3 and do the same. Of course before starting an upgrade, we encourage you to backup your database and the directory that contains all files of the module. To summarize:
Your version: 1.0.0 - Latest version: 1.0.3
- Backup your database and the directory of the module
- Visit 1.0.1 changelog. Does it have Upgrade Instructions? If so apply all changes otherwise go to next step
- Visit 1.0.2 changelog. Does it have Upgrade Instructions? If so apply all changes otherwise go to next step
- Visit 1.0.3 changelog. Does it have Upgrade Instructions? If so apply all changes otherwise go to next step
- Upload and replace all files of the module
The reason why we ask you to complete these steps manually is that we continuously update all modules focusing on adding new features in very short times. In order to distribute updates frequently and quickly, we do not use any automatic system for upgrades. Everytime a new update is released, we provide all details and informations in the official changelog on our website. Most of times you will only find details about new features, fixes, changes etc. like you can see on this page but sometimes you could also find the section named Upgrade Instructions - click here to see an example. When you see that there are upgrade instructions, it's very important that you read them very carefully and that you apply all changes in the given order. Do not skip any step or change their order.
